Perhaps one of the most significant tech news of 2017 is here, at long last. Rumor mill had been buzzing with it, tech fans were holding their breath whilst waiting for its confirmation, and finally the wait is over. Qualcomm has officially launched the 10mn Snapdragon 835 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2017) in Las Vegas. Leaks of the latest Qualcomm processors have already been around for quite some time, it’s a relief that Qualcomm has officially confirmed the existence fresh lineup of Snapdragon processors
Qualcomm Officially Unveils The Octa Core Snapdragon 835 With Adreno 530, Kyro 280 Cores, Here’s The Detail
Qualcomm is world famous for producing most reliable chipsets for electronic devices. The US chipmaking giant seems optimistic about the prospects of its new series of chips blowing away rivals’s offerings with the new Snapdragon 835. The processor’s design boasts octa cores design with upgraded Kyro cores named Kyro 280. As expected, new chips are given the big.LITTLE cluster arrangement. The Big cluster are capable of touching 2.45GHz at top speed. On the other hand, the LITTLE cluster is has the power to clock at 1.9GHz.
Qualcomm is also claiming that the new processor guarantees a 27% increase in performance levels. In what could be the defining aspect of the new Qualcomm 835, the company proclaims that its latest processor will bring as much as 40% more power efficiency compared to the previous Snapdragon 820. As far as the talk time is concerned, the Snapdragon 835 will offer a full day of talk, over seven days of 4K streaming, and more than five days of music playback time. This indicates the improving effect of the new Snapdragon processor on smartphone battery.
In addition, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 comes with improved performance parameters on the new processor. There’s a new performance element which Qualcomm terms as an ‘Efficiency Cluster’. It relates to a cluster of smaller cores that are designed to carry out the 80% of the operations with the capacity to clock at 1.9GHz on the Snapdragon 835. The processor will look after the five basic aspects of the device such as “ultra-fast charging and multi-day battery life, jaw-dropping virtual and live immersion, the most advanced camera capabilities, gigabit LTE connectivity, and inside-out security.”
Also making a come back with the Snapdragon 835 is the Adreno GPU series of chipsets with the new Adreno 530 GPU slotted over the chipset. The Adreno 540 GPU will offer as much as 25% faster graphics rendering with the additional support for 4K@60fps. Features of the new Qualcomm processor don’t end there, according to the official statement released by Qualcomm, the processor’s Hexagon 690 DSP comes with a support of Google’s TensorFlow. The Google TensorFlow allows for incorporating great new feature into smartphones, such as gesture tracking, machine learning, and much more. Manufacturers of smartphones contemplating adding feature like biometrics and virtual assistants, including many more will rejoice at this propitious announcement.
The X16 LTE modem now support up to 4X carrier aggression, Bluetooth 5.0 WiFi 802.11ad, and 4X4 MIMO. The improvement in WiFi technology will enable the transfer rates of almost 6.8Gbps. The information about this announcement was leaked by reliable tech insider Evan Blass, which provides insight into the Snapdragon 835 processor features. The leaked document states, “Snapdragon 835 offers 25 percent faster 3D graphic rendering and 60X more display colors when compared to Snapdragon 820.” It also offers, “new support for Dual Photodiode (2PD) and enhancements to our hybrid auto-focus framework bring intelligent phase and lighting detection to devices.”
Will Qualcomm manage to knock it out of the part once more, especially after much pilloried previous Snapdragon 820 processor which failed miserably at benchmark and performance tests? Or will Samsung manage to establish a decisive lead in processor sector this time around? Only time will tell.
