OnePlus is famous for staying true to its tagline “Never Settle” by constantly rolling out new software updates with critical security patches and performance improvement fixes. Like mentioned above, the Android O v8.0 is likely to be the last officially supported major firmware update for the OnePlus 3 & 3T, but that didn’t stop them from becoming the first company since Google itself to push the early release of the official Android 8.0 major OS update for their flagship devices. This development highlights that the closed beta testing is already underway behind doors, with the eventual public beta releases to following in the coming weeks.
The new update, which is around 800MB in size, updates the OnePlus 3 to Android 8.0 Oreo firmware. Obviously next in line to receive the Android 8 update are the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5. We are expecting the closed beta launch of their Android Oreo updates to arrive in the next few weeks.
But do make a note that the update is not available publicly for everyone. Since its only a close beta update, therefore it has a lot of bugs. Those interested can download this closed beta update on their OnePlus 3 phone.
As is OnePlus’s tradition, any new major software update is rolled out in three stages, where, first of all, it is pushed on selected devices registered with the closed beta group. Once the testers are satisfied that the errors have been culled from the system level, they give it a green light and then its send for public beta testing. Only when the update is deemed fully working after thorough testing, it is considered safe for public release, and a global release is followed.
This is closed beta update is not fully stable yet. Reports are saying that NFC is not working as it should, in fact, even Wi-Fi, Hotspot, and Bluetooth are unstable. This beta update has too many critical flaws that makes it unsuitable for use as a daily driver. But it goes on to show that the Android O major firmware update for public is not far away.
OnePlus 3 Android Oreo Update Stable Release
If you are waiting for the stable Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 to the public, well, it would be best to wait for at least a few more months from today. Which is not a bad thing if you ask us because this will leave ample time for proper testing of the closed beta update to ensure flawless release of the public beta update that can be used a daily driver on OnePlus 3. This early release to the closed beta group is surely a pleasant surprise in this regard.
So, after taking into account all recent developments on the beta update front, the OnePlus 3 Oreo beta update release is expected to be out for public sometime in October 2017. And the stable release of OnePlus 3 Oreo update, according to best guess, should be with us in November 2017, which will be a massive achievement if OnePlus manages to pulls this off.
