Apple is about the take the big screen smartphone market by a storm, if latest leaked reports are to be believed. Cupertino giant is gearing up to launch a new flagship device later this year as it marks the 10th anniversary of its iconic touch screen iPhone device that completely revolutionized the mobile phone industry.
As things are with any Apple device launch, a flurry of rumors and leaks precede the actual launch of the device. This time is no different as another rumor has reared its head and perhaps the most significant of all iPhone 8 related rumors. As per the latest by reliable tech source DigiTimes the iPhone lineup is about to welcome its biggest model yet in terms of screens size.
This latest leak hints that Apple may release new iPhone latest this year with a massive new 5.8-inch OLED display panel. And since its being tipped as the flagship device, expect some exclusive features in it as well, which probably won’t be available on smaller 5.5-inch and 4.7-inch models.
According to the publication, “Apple will launch 4.7-, 5.5- and 5.8-inch new iPhone models in second half of 2017, with TFT-LCD panels to be used in the former two models and AMOLED for the 5.8-inch one… Global shipments of the AMOLED iPhone in 2017 are estimated at 60-70 million units.”
As we reported earlier that Samsung will be the exclusive supplier of OLED panels used in the upscale iPhone shipping around 20 million panels a month throughout the production schedule.
This news also confirms that Apple is ready to move away from outdated TFT-LCD screen technology which falls in line with the earlier rumors that the tech giant is about to embrace new OLED display panel technology for iPhone 8, or whatever it decides to call it.
OLED panels brings a host of new possibilities, including support for curved screen displays, less strain on the device battery resulting in longer charging hours than on previous iPhone models. This large iPhone model will mark Apple’s formal entry into the phablet market to combat falling sales by opening up a new market segment for its flagship device.
In the end, we are expecting a lot changes in the next iPhone device. New rumors will make things clearer as to the actual design of the iPhone 8 as Apple is wont of deciding on the eventual design of its iPhone devices six months prior to their release in September. Given Apple hasn’t radically changed the design of its iPhone for a long time, its perhaps the time that the company will revamp iPhone design in the hope of the making up the lost ground on other manufacturers, especially when the reports are saying that Apple failed to capitalized on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 disaster.
