A recent announcement made a representative of OnePlus company in an interview sent shockwaves among the users of the popular Android smartphone, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. Many were left confused whether their phone will continue to receive official firmware support in future. Well, the answer is right here, keep on reading to know about the fate of the OnePlus 3/3T major firmware update support.
Let’s begin with the most important bit of information regarding the future prospects of the Android O firmware updates for the OnePlus 3/3T, which came to light in a recent interview:
Not long ago OnePlus announced that OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X were being cut off from the Nougat update program, leaving many fans disappointed. Naturally this raised concerns among the owners of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T who wondered whether similar discontinuation of the major OS support for their phone would follow.
The answer is NO and YES. OnePlus did the right thing by explaining their position on the matter instead of keeping users in the dark. The company has announced that Android 8 or Android O would be the last major OS update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. Both phones were launched last year, so they are relatively new.
At the moment, series of beta updates to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T are being pushed by OnePlus. However, once both devices are updated to Android 8 Oreo, the company will shift the Open Beta Program from OnePlus3/3T to this year’s flagship OnePlus 5 phone.
So, although OnePlus won’t release any major firmware updates for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T after Android 8.0 Oreo but it will continue to push updates containing security patches for the foreseeable future.
The OnePlus 5 succeeded last year’s OnePlus 3T as flagship phone from OnePlus electronic manufacturer. This year’s model is powered by latest Snapdragon 835 processor, sports a dual camera, metallic unibody, and a 3300mAh battery. The device is available in 6GB RAM/64GB memory and 8GB RAM/128GB memory variants.
