OnePlus has officially released Android Nougat based beta update for its OnePlus 3 smartphone. This update is call OxygenOS Open Beta 8 for OnePlus 3 which you can download and install from official channels or manually. With this OxygenOS Open Beta 8 update, you can finally update your OnePlus 3 to Android Nougat with all its features fully enabled and working. If you’re already enrolled in OnePlus 3 beta testing program, chances are you won’t be getting this OxygenOS Open Beta 8 Android Nougat update on OnePlus 3 via OTA update method. However, you can easily install this update manually by following the steps in the guide below. In this post, we are going to show you how to install modified TWRP and root OnePlus on Android Nougat beta build update.
After upgrading to this Android Nougat beta update on OnePlus 3, currently installed TWRP may no longer work. In that case, you’ll need to install a modified TWRP on OnePlus 3 to get it back to working condition even on Android Nougat beta powered OnePlus 3 device. In order to flash any custom ROM or Mod, you’ll need a fully working TWRP installed on your device. Thanks to an XDA developer, eng.stk you can now install modded TWRP recovery on OnePlus 3 running on OxygenOS Open Beta 8 for install ROMs, kernels, mods and customize your device. This modified TWRP is version 3.0.2-1.28 and works without any problem on OnePlus 3. See the instructions below to install modified TWRP for OnePlus 3 after which you can root your device.
Before You Start:
- Head over to Settings > About Phone > Build Number and tap 7 times on it to enable Developer Options. Go back to main Settings menu and then to Settings > Developer Options to enable USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking options.
- Download Minimal ADB and Fastboot and install it on your PC.
- Backup device data as the unlocking bootloader will erase existing data.
- Make sure your device is at least 60% – 70% charged to avoid accidental shutdown.
How To Install Modified TWRP & Root OnePlus 3 On Android Nougat Beta 8:
1 – Download the recovery and Supersu files from the links above and save them on your device.
2 – For easily finding the recovery file, rename it to recovery.img or any other name as you wish.
3 – Move the recovery.img file to the folder where you installed and extracted ADB and Fastboot files on PC.
4 – Go to the ADB & Fastboot Folder on PC and open a command prompt by pressing the SHIFT key + Right-click in the empty space inside the folder and select Open command window here from the contextual menu.
5 – Now connect your device to PC. And type the command below to boot your OnePlus 3 into the bootloader mode.
adb reboot bootloader
6 – In the bootloader mode, type the following in the command prompt to flash the recovery images file on your OnePlus 3.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
7 – Wait for the file to flash. See the next steps once the file is flashed on OnePlus 3.
8 – Reboot your device into recovery mode by typing the command below in the command prompt:
adb reboot recovery
9 – When inside the recovery mode, install the SuperSU .zip file by selecting the Install button in TWRP and select the zip file and reboot your device back into the normal mode once the process is complete.
