How to Unlock Boot Loader of Moto G5 & G5 Plus

Motorola recently launched its two new smartphones but like most other Android phones both Moto G5 & G4 Plus come with bootloader locked. Many users of Moto G5 devices don’t know the proper way of unlocking boot loader but here is a quick method to unlock boot loader on Moto G5 & G5 Plus via official method.

Android device manufacturers release their phones with bootloader locked to ensure device security. You have to manually unlock bootloader on many Android phones to be able to perform device customization tasks but this comes with a caveat that unlocking boot loader voids device warranty, so keep that in mind. Prerequisites

Keep these things in mind before unlocking bootloader:

Steps to Unlock Bootloader of Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus

1 – Enable USB Debugging and OEM unlocking from Settings > Developer options. Here’s how to enable Developer Options if you don’t see this option in Settings.

2 – Make sure latest ADB Fastboot drivers for PC Windows or MAC are installed on your computer. Skip his step if you have already got them installed.

3 – Go to the location where you installed ADB & Fastoot on PC and enter the folder with following four files in it.

4 – Now, inside the same folder press and hold the SHIFT key and right-click anywhere on an empty space and select ‘Open command window here’ from the context menu.

5 – Connect your mobile device to computer via USB cable.

6 – Type the following command in the command prompt to enter your device into the fastboot mode:

adb reboot bootloader

7 – Next, type the following command:

fastboot oem get_unlock_data

8 – You will now get a string of character on the command prompt screen, copy them to a notepad. Make sure to delete all spaces between characters on the notepad to get one line.

9 – Now, open the Motorola’s unlock the boot loader page and create a new account, use existing one for login or use Google+ account.

10 – Now, copy the (unlock code) which you pasted in the notepad above and paste it in the section.6 of the page and click Can my device be unlocked? button.

11 – Motorola will now send an unlock key to the same email address which you used to sign in above.

12 – Copy the unlock key and type the following command in the prompt:

fastboot oem unlock Unlock_Key (which you received in email)

13 – This will unlock the boot loader of Moto G5 / G5 Plus after which you can reboot your device and unplug it from computer.

14 – That’s all.
