Before You Start:
Download following items before staring ADB and Fastboot driver installation on PC:
- Download Java SE Development Kit 7 and install it on Windows PC in order to make Android SDK Tools work on PC. During the installation, leave all options as default.
- Download Android SDK Tools. Install the Android SDK Manager on C:\ for easy access by clicking on the SDK Manager.exe setup file.
- Complete the setup process and hit the Finish button to run the SDK Manager tool on PC Windows.
How to Install ADB and Fastboot Drivers on Windows PC (32-bit/64-bit)
1 – Now that you have installed the Android SDK Manager on PC Windows, now open the tool. You will see various options on the interface window, you won’t be needing all the option, just select the ones need and keep the rest unchecked.
2 – You need to check Android SDK Platform-tools and Google USB Drivers options. Scroll down to the bottom of the packages box in SDK Manager window and under Extras you will see Google USB Drivers option.
3 – After checking the two options above, its time to accept boring Terms and Condition (if you have the patients then go ahead and read all dreaded terms and condition, most people don’t bother reading and rightly so) for both Android SDK Platform-tools and Google USB Drivers to start the installation.
4 – At the end of the installation, Android SDK Manager Log screen showing installation logs appears.

How To Tweak/Modify Android Device using ADB & Fastboot on PC Windows
You need to boot your device in the Fastboot Mode in order to modify the device. Booting the device in the Fastboot Mode is different for devices from different manufacturers, find your device’s way of booting into the Fastboot Mode first.
For major Android devices like Samsung you need to long-press and hold Power + Home + Volume Down button simultaneously to boot your device in the recovery mode. In the recovery mode, you can navigate through various option by using volume up and down keys to select the Fastboot mode.
Flash Images/Custom Recoveries/ROMs on Android Devices using Fastboot
1 – Make sure the the ADB and Fastboot drivers are properly installed on PC Windows from the above method.
2 – On the C: Drive, create a new folder and name it ‘Fastboot’. Leave it there and move on to the following steps. We will get back to it later.
3 – Now open the Android SDK Manager installation directory on PC and then open platform-tools. You will mostly find it in C:\Android-SDK-Manager\platform-tools.
4 – Copy ‘adb’, ‘AdbWinApi.dll’ and ‘fastboot’ files from the platform-tools folder.
5 – Go back the main C: Drive menu where you created the Fastboot folder in the step-2 and paste the adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll and fastboot.exe files in the Fastboot folder.
6 – Next, copy the image (.img) file into the Fastboot folder.

7 – Now press the SHIFT key and right-click anywhere on an empty desktop space and select ‘Open command window here’ from the context menu. In the command prompt, type cd c:\fastboot to open the fastboot folder in the command prompt.
- Alternatively, open Fastboot folder, press SHIFT key and then right-click on an empty space and click on ‘open command prompt here’ to directly open the Fastboot folder in the command prompt. In this case, you don’t need to write cd c:\fastboot in the prompt.
8 – Boot your Android device into the Download/Fastboot mode and connect it to PC via USB cable.
9 – Now to flash a specific image on the Fastboot, you need to type a command having the image name and image format. For example, to flash the image named ‘abc.img‘, you need to type this command ‘Fastboot Flash Boot abc.img.
