You must have been familiar or have heard of a new Touch ID (capacitive) home button on new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus that comes with Apple’s proprietary taptic engine capable of sending live feedback to the company when an action has been taken using the home button. This new capacitive home button has replaced the mechanical button on previous iPhone models.

With this change in the the home button, the process of entering DFU mode in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has also changed a bit to make up for the absence of the old mechanical button. Enter DFU Mode On iPhone 7 / iPhone 7 Plus – Method:

1 – Make sure you have got latest version of iTunes installed on Windows PC or MAC.

2 – Now connect your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus to PC via lightening cable.

3 – Power OFF your device by pressing and holding the Power/lock button and slide to power off.

4 – When the device is off, press and hold the power/lock button for up to 5 seconds. While keep holding down the power/lock key, press and hold the volume down button and keep holding both keys down together for up to 10 seconds.

5 – After about 10 seconds, release the power/lock button but keep on pressing the volume down button for 5 or more seconds.

Note: If you see the iTunes logo or the Apple logo on the screen, it means you have held the volume down key for a bit too long. In such a case, repeat the above steps.

6 – If everything goes as expected, you will see a black display which signals that the device has successfully entered into DFU mode. You will see the iTunes confirmation message at the end of the process.

7 – That’s all.

When the device enters the DFU mode, you can perform different tasks including restoring the firmware to fix an issue that’s you have been unable to address with any other available solution. Keep on repeating the above steps until you enter DFU mode, it may take you a few attempts to get it done initially.
