How to Create macOS Sierra 10.12 Bootable USB Flash Drive

1 – Head to the Mac App Store and download macOS Sierra 10.12 installer app. It’s named ‘Install macOS Sierra’.

2 – Connect the USB flash drive to your MAC.

3 – Launch the Disk Utility app to format the connected flash drive. On the left side of the Disk Utility app interface, select the connected USB drive, and then click on the Erase button.

4 – Now set the name of the flash drive, it can be any name (however, once in the terminal to send commands, make sure that USB flash drive name is addressed as ‘drive’ and not by the name you just chose). Next, under the name field, select the format as OS X Extended (Journaled) and the Scheme field is set as GUID Partition Map. After that hit the Erase button.

5 – When the USB flash drive is successfully erased, launch the terminal app which you can find in ‘Applications/Utilities’ folder or find it via Spotlight search.

6 – Now type in the following command to create the installation media on the USB flash drive with administrator privileges. Hit enter after typing the this command below on the terminal:

7 – Now when asked, enter your MAC administrator password on the terminal screen to run sudo command with additional privileges and hit enter.

At the successful conclusion of the process, you will see Done message displayed at the bottom of the terminal screen signifying that the bootable flash drive has been created.
