Integrate Google Assistant in Chats

Google has added its virtual assistant in Google Allo app which is always ready to answer your queries. You can ask it anything before, during or after chat has ended. It shares jokes with you, updates you about latest weather condition, you can ask it to bring Google search results within the app, you can access Gmail account by asking the virtual assistant of Google Allo to fetch emails to send to the receiver during chat.

Apart from this, you can also integrate Google Assistant within any personal or group chat anytime. Here’s how to:

  • Start a chat with your group or personal contact.
  • Type @google in the text input field.
  • Then ask Google Assistant to give you information about nearest place, weather or anything else.


Change Text Font Size

Google has added a new feature in Google Allo linked a font size change. You can send in the message in bigger fonts to indicate shouting or small fonts for whispering. Here’s how:

  • Start a conversation or open the current one.
  • Tap on the text input field.
  • Type in the text and then tap & hold the send button to make the text bigger or smaller.
  • A vertical slider will pop up. Drag your finder up to make the text bigger or slide down to make it look smaller.


See When the Message was Sent

WhatsApp users would be familiar with this one, you can see the time for the messages in chats. By default, this feature is turned OFF in Google Allo, here’s what to do if you want to see when the message was sent.

  • Open Google Allo app.
  • Tap on any conversation.
  • And then tap on any message in the conversation to see when it was sent.

Private Chat with Incognito Mode

Online scams and surveillance has made people wary of privacy and security issues when chatting on messenger apps. You can keep your message secured with end-to-end encryption, but it is OFF by default. So, if you are looking for smarter secure ways to chat then enable end-to-end encryption.

  • Tap on the New Chat icon.
  • Select Start Incognito Chat option.
  • And then choose contact you want to chat with from the contacts list.


All chat are automatically secured with incognito mode as the chat content won’t in the Allow conversation list. You can mute notification when in incognito mode and contact name will not be shown.

Block Number or Person

You can easily block unauthorized numbers and people from contacting and bothering you from an unknown number.

  • Open Allo app.
  • Tap and hold the conversation.
  • Select ‘Block/Turn off notification’ option from the pop-up menu.

Here’s how to block a contact or unknown person:

  • Open Allo app.
  • Tap on the target conversation.
  • Tap the contact number or name on the top of the screen.
  • Turn the Mute toggle ON or tap on the block button.


Search Old Messages/Past Conversations

In Google Allo, you can search for any keyword or text from past messages. You can search for a keyword within a single conversation or all messages in every conversation. You can search for keywords from past messages, the feature currently only available on Android devices. iOS users are out of luck in this regard.

Search within a single conversation

  • Open Google Allo.
  • Tap the conversation you want to search in.
  • Tap the profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen and then tap the Search option.
  • Now type the text you want to search.

Search All Messages

  • Open Google Allo.
  • Tap Search icon.
  • Type your query to see a list of results from all conversations with the search word highlighted.

Delete Group/Personal Chat & Clear Chat History

Here’s how you can delete entire message, chat, and clear chat history in Google Allo.

Delete a Message inside a Conversation

  • Open Google Allo.
  • Tap on the conversation from which you want to delete a specific message.
  • Press and hold the message that you want to delete.
  • A pop-up menu will appear on the top of the screen.
  • Tap the Delete icon and then tap Delete.

Delete a Conversation

  • Open the app.
  • Tap and hold on the conversation you want to delete.
  • Tap the Delete option from the pop up menu.


Clear Chat History

  • Open Google Allo and go to the conversation whose history you want to delete.
  • Tap the contact profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen
  • Now tap Clear History option.


Set Expiry Time in Incognito Mode

In Google Allo you can have your message self-destruct after a set amount of time. You can set an expiry time for the chat message after which your chat message will disappear. You can choose to select 5, 10, 30 seconds or 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 week or never from the list of options. When you send the message or read it, the expiry timer starts at the end of which the message will disappear from the chat screen forever. You can select different expiry timers for sender and receiver.

When in Incognito Mode, simply tap the Timer icon on the top right corner of the screen.


Add Text in Messages and Draw Photos

You can add caption to an image, add text to the image or draw on the image.

  • Open Google Allo.
  • Open a conversation.
  • Now tap the + add icon on the left of the text input field.
  • Tap on an image.
  • Tap the Edit icon and then tap on the Sketch icon, select the color and then start drawing on the image.
  • To add text to the image, tap the text icon and then type your text on the image.
  • Now tap the Send button.
