How To Sideload OTA Images on Android Devices:
One way of updating your Android device to a new firmware version is by sideloading OTA images. Here’s How to do it:
First steps to update your device to Android 7.1.1 Nougat using OTA files is to actually download the proper OTA image file for your device from the links provided. See if your device is in a list of eligible for Android Nougat update, new devices are regularly added to the list, if your’s is not on the list in the link above, see your device manufacturer site for more information.
Now, after downloading the OTA zip file on PC, next steps is to prepare your device to install or sideload OTA file image. For that, reboot your device into its bootloader. You need to have Nexus bootloader / Pixel bootloader unlocked for entering your device into booloader as it comes disabled by default. To enter the bootloader, power off your device, and boot it again by holding the volume down button and the power button simultaneously. Now enter the recovery mode from here. Press the volume button down until you see ‘Recovery mode’ and press the Power button. When you see green Android icon on the screen, hold Power button down and then press and release the volume up button to reveal the menu. From the resulting menu, select ‘apply update from ADB’ and plug your device to PC if its isn’t already.
Finally to install the OTA file open the command line on your PC (terminal on AMC, command prompt on Windows) and change the directory to the location of the OTA file (For example, cd/Users/<yourusername>/Downloads/). Now run the command “adb sideload <name of the OTA file>. The name of the OTA file is going to be a longs string of numbers and letters and will end with .zip.
Now when you see ‘Install from ADB complete’ on your Android device’s screen, reboot your device. Once done, your device should have latest Android firmware installed on it.
